Where
Do You Want to Eat? Portland, Oregon
Suddenly, Portland's restaurant scene is challenging its neighbor
Seattle - and even giving San Francisco a run for its organic tomatoes.
Inspired by the incredible regional seafood and vegetables and prime
Willamette Valley wines, chefs are dishing up sophisticated-rustic
cuisine in stylishly quirky surroundings. Even better, the meal
prices would seem like pocket change in New York.
Local
Flavor - Wildwood
A pioneer of classic Pacific Northwest cooking, 12-year-old Wildwood
still earns respect. Chef and founder Cory Schreiber, who grew up
in the oyster business, supports local farms and sustainable agriculture;
his fall dishes showcase wild chanterelles and white truffles, as
well as lush Concord grapes, apples, and hazelnuts grown nearby.
The regional theme extends to slate floors and wood-lined walls
and ceiling. Dinner for two, $75.
